Wastewater treatment for a softdrinks producer in Burkina Faso
SBR Greenfield project
CUSS designed, constructed, and commissioned a wastewater treatment plant for a new softdrink bottling factory in Burkina Faso. The effluent of the plant is discharged into local surface waters. The plant was designed in a way that the effluent quality allows surface water discharge.
Numbers & Facts:
• Place: Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso
• Hydraulic plant capacity: 1000 m³/d
• Organic Load: 2500 mg/l (CSB)
• Year of construction: 2023
CONCEPTUAL FORMULATION:
As part of the new construction of the entire production site, the exact dimensions of the plant had to be coordinated with the construction of the remaining infrastructure. Due to the simultaneous execution, the coordination of the construction measures proved to be complicated. By organising the construction flexibly, we were able to adapt to the customer's needs and ensured that the plant was commissioned on time.
A SBR system with two parallel reactors was designed for the easily degradable wastewater, which guarantees easy operation and robust technology. Another argument in favour of SBR technology was the customer's desire to keep the acquisition costs as low as possible. An emergency tank was provided to compensate for possible peak loads. Using automated measurements in the inlet, particularly heavily loaded wastewater is temporarily stored in the emergency tank and then slowly fed into the plant. In this way, the required clear water values can be reliably maintained even in the event of strong fluctuations in the inlet quality.
