Chriwa Group - Water matters. We care.

Beverage industry

In the production of beverages, and in particular soft drinks, syrup, flavourings and concentrates are mixed together with treated water and filled into the containers provided for this purpose in the filling plant. Rinsing and cleaning water in the production plant as well as in the water treatment plant are continuously produced and have to be cleaned according to the legal or company-internal requirements.

A high concentration of easily biodegradable organic matter in combination with low concentrations of suspended substances as well as fats and oils ensures that a combination of mechanical pre-cleaning and aerobic biological treatment has become an established process.

In the brewing industry, due to a higher organic load, an anaerobic process in the form of CSTR, UASB or EGSB reactors with prior separation of suspended substances by lamella clarifiers is often used upstream of the aerobic stage to obtain biogas.

As early as 1995, CUSS GmbH developed and built the first fully biological wastewater treatment plant for the beverage industry. Since then, we have been constantly improving and expanding our knowledge and product portfolio for our numerous, renowned customers in the beverage industry (soft drink, fruit juice, tea industry, breweries).

For more than 30 years, CUSS has gained an excellent reputation and implemented a wide range of successful projects, mainly for wastewater in the brewery and soft drink industry. Here is an excerpt of our projects:

Brewery in Ukraine

Construction of a new wastewater treatment plant for the complete biological treatment of brewery wastewater in Ukraine with a multi-stage anaerobic-aerobic concept. By using secondary energy sources, an economically productive process was realised.

Wastewater recycling of a softdrink bottling plant

In cooperation with our sister company Chriwa, a wastewater recycling plant was designed for a soft drink producer in Peru.

Aerobic wastewater treatment on a Carribean island

On behalf of a beverage bottler for beer and soft drinks, CUSS built a wastewater treatment plant on a Caribbean Island in 2011.The wastewater mixture discharge from the production facility was to be completely cleaned as part of the wastewater treatment so that is could be discharged to the receiving waters.

Upgrading of a biological treatment plant for beverage wastewater in Malaysia

Upgrading of a wastewater treatment plant for the biological treatment of beverage wastewater in Malaysia by means of multi-stage anaerobic-aerobic treatment using EGSB and MBR technology.

Wastewater Treatment for water reuse in a water scarce province in Saudi Arabia

A renowned soft-drink manufacturer consulted CUSS to design and install a new wastewater treatment plant at a greenfield factory in terms of complying with high local environmental standards. A combination of anaerobic and aerobic biological treatment was chosen to decrease overall operational expenditures.

SBR activation treatment to receiving water quality

In 1996, a well-known international softdrink producer has built a large beverage production plant as a greenfield project in Ukraine. The waste water, originating from production, processing and bottling is fed into a SBR system and treated up to receiving water quality. Within the ramework the plant was extended in 2010 as part of a second construction phase.
