Distilleries, wine, sparkling wine and spirits producers

In distilleries, one of the things that remains after the distillation process is the so-called stillage. Other waste water from fermenter cooling and rinsing processes make up a large part of the waste water to be treated. A high organic load, dark colour, high concentrations of dissolved and suspended substances, low pH values and a high temperature characterise waste water from distilleries.

In a first anaerobic treatment step, a large part of the organic matter can be converted in a CSTR into, among other things, biogas that can be used for energy purposes; doeses can be used as an additional energy source in the production process. For further reduction of the organic matter, activated sludge basin are installed downstream. Residual organic matter and dyes that cannot be removed in the biological treatment process are removed in a combination of continuous sand filter and activated carbon filter before the treated wastewater leaves the treatment plant with the prescribed limit values.
