Dry filtration

Dry filters are used for the oxidative degradation of unwanted water constituents under high oxygen demand.

For this purpose, a filter tank is used in which the raw water is sprayed above the gravel in oxygenated air. At the same time, sterile filtered air is forced into the filter, which travels with the water through the filter layers and is released at the bottom through an air vent. This creates constant contact surfaces between the water and the air, which allows the oxygen to pass into the water. The undesirable constituents of the raw water are oxidised by microorganisms that are enriched in the filter bed and converted into harmless products. This allows ammonium, hydrogen sulphide and other biodegradable substances to be converted and eliminated.
