Chriwa Group - Water matters. We care.

Dairies

In the manufacture of cheese and other dairy products, large quantities of water of drinking water quality and process water are often required for short periods during production and processing. Large quantities of highly contaminated wastewater are also produced.

As in the entire food industry, the aim is usually to have an own raw water supply from a well in order to have a supply of water independent of external influences. This includes water treatment plants and the associated pure water storage tanks. This avoids the costs of purchasing water from the municipal water supply and also reduces the burden on the latter.

Different types of water in the dairy

Different types of water are required as operating fluids at several points in the production process. As washing water for CIP processes, boiler feed water, cooling water and it can also be used in product manufacture. The enormous water consumption - 2 to 12 litres per kilogramme depending on the milk product - makes saving water consumption all the more desirable.

Recycling of waste and waste water from dairies

The waste water is characterised by a high organic load, which results from the high concentrations of fats and proteins in the milk. A combination of different wastewater treatment processes by our subsidiary CUSS manages to reduce the heavily contaminated but easily biodegradable substances in the wastewater to such an extent that the wastewater can be discharged directly into the receiving water without causing any problems.

Biogas can also be produced from waste and wastewater, which can reduce electricity and heating costs in the plant. This can mean potential savings and optimises the energy efficiency of the plant.

Water recovery for secondary water in the dairy

By recovering condensate using reverse osmosis, condensate can be reused in secondary processes:

For 50 years now, we have supplied numerous water treatment systems for dairies, primarily in Germany. Among the very first projects in our company's history were two dairies of Alster Milchwerke Hamburg at two locations. In these projects, the company president, Peter Christiansen, carried out the installation himself. The customer's trust in the quality of our processes at that time helped us and paved the way to where we are today as a company.

Technologies

The wide range of Chriwa water treatment technologies enables the customised and reliable treatment of different raw water qualities to produce product water that is optimally matched to the respective process.
